De Murga delighted with Ceres victory

Ceres-Negros Captain Carlie De Murga was in a contented mood after his side edged out Myanmar Champions Shan United in the first round of AFC Champions League qualifying.

The current national team player reveled on the fact that his team delivered on the big stage even if they were early in the preseason.

“We took this game as a preparation. We had four days training but this is the AFC Champions League so you don’t need more motivation than that,” said the defender.

“It’s our first time to play in this competition and we won’t know if we gonna play tomorrow so were gonna enjoy the moment,” he added.

The veteran also lauded the character of the team as they stuck to their objective even after the game went on to extra time and penalties.

“It was quite hard because we didn’t have the stamina to play too long but the team was very brave. We kept solid on the block, followed the game plan, and won the game. We are happy,”

De Murga and company are now preparing for their next challenge when they face Aussie side Brisbane Roar on January 23 in Queensland.
