Ceres-Negros scored an emphatic 5-1 win over Ilocos United at the Quirino Stadium in Ilocos Sur last November 21. Patrick Reichelt and Bienvenido Marañon registered two goals apiece while Kevin Ingreso scored another for the Negros squad. Chima Uzoka was the lone scorer for the home squad.
The Negros squad brought the pressure early with Omid Nazari testing Baba Sampana as early as the sixth minute. Reichelt had a good chance off an Iain Ramsay cross but the keeper was there for the denial. The resulting corner saw Super Herrera going over the bar.
Ceres would get plenty off chances from Ramsay, Reichelt, and Maranon but the players did not hit their mark.It took the busmen almost half-an-hour before breaking the impasse.
Reichelt redirected a Bienvenido Maranon cross for the opening goal. Dods Pasinabo started the action with a through ball to Maranon who found the unmarked Filipino striker for the 1-0 lead.
Ilocos United had their lone chance in the half when Chima Uzoka rose over the defense for a free header that was tapped over by Roland Muller. The visitors had their final chance before the final whistle when Ingreso’s twenty yard attempt was covered well by the keeper.
The home team found the back of the net minutes after the restart but the goal was ruled offside. A bad header pass the defense forced Muller to a fingertip save with the ball bouncing to the crossbar. The younger Uzoka rebounded well but the assistant referee raised his flag indicating offside.
Ceres would double its advantage in the 58th minute with another combination from Maranon and Reichelt. The Spaniard drew defenders to the goal line before finding Reichelt who made no mistake from point blank.
United would get a goal of their own three minutes later when a mad scramble allowed Chima Uzoka to finally put the ball at the back of the net to make it 1-2.
The visitors restored the advantage in the 72nd when Kevin Ingreso rebounded on his own shot to put one past the beaten Sampana. Ilocos’ John Kanayama was sent off after jawing with the referee minutes from time.
The yellow and black would add two more in the final five minutes when Maranon scoring a late brace off assists from Ramsay and Reichelt. The match would end with Ceres-Negros earning a four goal win in their final assignment with Ilocos United.
“It was a very tough game because, if you think about it, we were playing for nothing,” said Ceres Coach Risto Vidakovic in the post match press conference.
“We’re just playing to reach the 28 games. Its a big problem to play these games. We have a game on Friday at 3PM and maybe forty degrees and we’ll try to survive,” he added.
Man of the Match Patrick Reichelt was quite happy of the result especially after playing a full match after getting injured with the Azkals last October. “I felt good. Like it was a long time for me. Every minute I can get now is like a gift after coming back,” said the designated Captain.
Reichelt also echoed his coach’s sentiment on the match and credited his teammates for their performance. “Like the Coach said there’s not much to gain so biggest respect for the boys that actually can motivate themselves. The most important at the end of the day is that we don’t pick up more injuries,” he added.
Ceres-Negros will play FC Meralco Manila in the National Training pitch in Carmona, Cavite on Friday November 24. The Bacolod squad is just one point from the top spot with a game in hand.
