Ceres-Negros will attempt to get back to winning ways when they host Kaya FC-Makati in their second home match in the Philippines Football League on June 24 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.
The Busmen will again face the Makati representatives whom they have met in their first league game of the season. Conditions were different with the four pm kickoff and the non-ideal pitch conditions in the first match. Iain Ramsay scored in his Philippine League debut with former Ceres midfielder Marwin Angeles who cancelled the opener and leveled the match which finished as a 1-1 draw.
Ceres Coach Risto Vidakovic is treating the game as a must-win and has full trust on his players to get a result. “Im very sure that my players will give a hundred percent tomorrow to win the game and maybe this game is the most important game in the last month,” said Vidakovic. “This is our best opportunity to improve. I think tomorrow we have a good pitch and I think it will make a difference in the match,” he added.
Ceres is keen to bounce back from two key losses the past week against JPV Marikina and Hougang United. JP Voltes gave Ceres their first loss in the PFL last week while Hougang eliminated the Negros squad from the RHB Singapore Cup. The home squad will be banking on its sellout crowd when they face their former UFL rivals who have seven former Ceres players in their roster. A capacity crowd of about nine-thousand is expected to troop to the stadium to witness the extension of their rivalry.
Ceres midfielder Martin Steuble is excited to play at home and see the fans pack the stadium. “It is always a pleasure to play in front of the home crowd especially when they explode and are very loud, very engaged in the game,’ said the Ceres Third Captain. “They always push us forward no matter who we face. Its always a big help and a good feeling when you are playing for them. (I’m) looking forward to the sold out crowd tomorrow,” the former national player added.
Jeffrey Christaens is still recovering after getting injured in the Azkals friendly against China in Guangzhou. Kaya will miss the services of Jordan Mintah and Adam Reed as both players will serve their suspensions from prior matches. Ceres is currently at 5th place with four points from three matches. Kaya meanwhile are in 4th, collecting ten points from six games. The match will kickoff at 7PM Philippine time.
