A top of the table clash is in the works when Ceres-Negros FC meets FC Meralco Manila on November 5 at the Panaad Stadium.
The two teams met last August 16 where Meralco stunned Panaad with a 2-1 win over the home squad. Curt Dizon struck first in the second half followed by Simon Greatwich minutes later.
Super Herrera had a goal back but the visitors held on to earn the full three points. The loss erased the memory of the 7-0 win by Ceres-Negros in Rizal Memorial and broke the unbeaten streak of the team at home since 2016.
Meralco is currently on top of the table with 54 points followed by Ceres with 48. The Negros squad has three more games to play than Manila and coincidentally two of their final six matches in the regular season is with the current number one.
The visitors are coming into Bacolod with fresher legs after their 1-0 win at home versus JP Voltes. The home squad will only be two days removed from their 5-1 conquest over the Davao Aguilas.
Fernando Rodriguez has been on fire scoring an accumulated four goals in the last two games which was highlighted by a hat trick over Davao. He and the rest of the Ceres attack will again be tested once he faces the leagues’ second-best defensive team.
Manila will miss the services of centerback Lee Jeong Min for accumulated cards whiles Negros has Stephan Schrock questionable for the upcoming match. The Filipino playmaker was subbed out of the previous match due to a leg injury early in the first half.
Kickoff is set at 7pm this Sunday with the fans getting the luxury of free admission to the grandstand and bleachers sections. A livestream will be made available for those who are unable to witness the game live.
