Bienvenido Marañon emerged as one of the goalscorers from the first leg of the Zonal Semifinal against Johor Darul Ta’zim. Ceres-Negros FC went down 3-2 in the first leg but has scored vital away goals to make things interesting in the second leg in Bacolod. Bienve sat down with ceresfootball.com the day after the match and shared his thoughts on the first semifinal match.
“I think we did a good job in the game,” said Spanish midfielder. “I think also we deserve a little more for the chances we created. We are so happy of this result because maybe the the semifinal is open. In Bacolod we can win for sure,” he added.
The Bacolod squad went down early but roared back just minutes later with goals from Fernando Rodriguez and Marañon silencing the fourteen thousand crowd in attendance. The crowd however put their influence on the game, egging their team for the equalizer and were also rewarded with a gift of a deflected go-ahead goal.
When asked if he enjoyed playing in a large crowd, Marañon , “Yeah we were so happy, but we can get this in Panaad. In Johor its different because they are a rich team and the stadium was almost full. Its a very good experience for me, and for the team.”
The current second top scorer of the tournament also noted the difference between Europe and Asia and the latter’s improvement in the game. I played in second division in Spain, played against Real Sociedad with also fourteen thousand. But here its different. The stadium, the team, everything is different. But I think in Asia, they are growing in football.”
Marañon is already looking forward towards the second leg at home and the capacity crowd that comes with it. “It will be really good game,” said Marañon. “We have to win, they have to defend the result, and I think we can for sure do very good in Bacolod in front of our supporters.”
Ceres-Negros will have more than a week to prepare for their all-important second leg on May 31st. A full house is expected in Panaad in the second leg which will see the Malaysian Champions second game in the Philippines. JDT suffered a 3-2 loss against Global in the group stage. A 1-0 win by the Busmen would be enough for them to reach the Asean zone final.
