Ceres and Global games have always been headliners in the past few years of Philippine club football. From the early National Championships up to the current Philippines Football League, matches between the two rivals have been nothing short of special.
The Busmen banked on a late Jeffrey Christaens winner to score a 1-0 win in their first home game in Panaad. This time around, it’s the Cebu outfit’s turn to host the Negros squad at home and Ceres midfielder Stephan Scröck is already looking forward to their second encounter in the PFL.
“Its always special when we face global,” said Schröck after he was declared as the man of the match in their last game against Stallion Laguna. “Even the last year were tough games always. We work for these games, we want to enjoy, and we want win these games. That’s what were trying to do.”
Global will be playing its first PFL home game in Cebu and a football starved crowd is expected to come and support their home squad. Schröck is excited of the challenge ahead and the atmosphere that may come with it. “I hear that the crowd will be good in the Cebu. I think it will be the first away game with much fans in the stadium,” said Schröck.
“It’s the best games that I have experienced back in Germany, an away game, and the stadium is packed,” said the german league veteran. “So you grow as a team and hopefully you get a good result there and get the three points,” he added.
With Global Cebu getting a draw last Sunday against Kaya FC-Makati, the defending league champions are eager to regain lost points against their rivals in their midweek encounter. Global Cebu is currently in third, just a point ahead of Ceres-Negros in the standings. The match is set to kickoff at 7pm on July 5 at the Cebu City (Abellana) Sports Center.
