Ceres-Negros FC scored a 3-1 victory over Becamex Bingh Duong last March 12 at the Go Dau Stadium near Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Bienvenido Maranon scored a hat trick while Wander Luiz scored the lone goal for the home squad.
The busmen had the best chance early in the match after a glancing header by Maranon off an OJ Porteria cross was saved well by the keeper in the 9th minute. A great reverse ball from Stephan Schrock to Porteria who crossed well in the middle but Bui Tan Truong was quick to grab the ball away from Maranon.
Becamex came into the action with a Dinh Hoang Max strike from a tight angle hit a side netting followed by a quick counter that was immediatly cleared by the Ceres defense.
It was in the 26th minute when the visitors went ahead after Maranon nicked the ball from the keeper, who thought there was a call for offside, and struck it into an empty net.
Ceres-Negros had good chances to double the lead from Kevin Ingreso, Mike Ott and Porteria but Tan Truong produced marvelous saves to keep his side within striking distance.
The best chance in the half for the home squad came to Veniamin Shumeyko but his quick attempt off a corner sailed over the bar. Ceres had the final chance in the half from Maranon but the keeper did well again to block the shot.
The Vietnam Cup champions pushed for an equalizer early with To Van Vu getting some chances which were handled well by Roland Muller. Maranon tried a left footer in the 53rd minute but was again stopped by the keeper.
Victor Manasaray had a good chance to equalize off a header but Muller came up to make a fine save in the 65th minute. The American striker would have another go but Muller denied him again minutes later.
Becamex earned their equalizer in the 72nd minute when Mansaray redirected a cross while turning his back on goal. Their celebrations were however shortlived when Schrock whipped in a ball from distance which bounce towards Maranon and into the goal to make it 2-1.Ceres-Negros put some separation minutes later when Porteria laid off the ball to an unmarked Maranon in the middle of the box who made it 3-1.
Binh Duong had another chance five minutes from time but Wander’s attempt went past Muller but went straight into the post. The home side would have a final attempt in injury time but Muller easily collected a glancing header.
The match ended with Ceres earning a 3-1 win and a full three points in the match. The busmen are now on top of Group G with six points followed by Persija Jakarta who has four points after their 3-1 victory in Yangon over Shan United.
Ceres-Negros will face Persija Jakarta in two consecutive matches in April with their first match in Panaad on the 3rd with the return leg in Jakarta on the 23rd.
